Xigris progress

There are slow but steady progress on the Xigris, I have not yet been able to really put in some hours, but with such a good quality kit not many hours are required.  I let the pictures speak for themselves.

The engine mount for Hacker is in place

The former in the tail has a hole in the wrong place

Tail-wheel assmbly in place

The tailpost is glued in

Stab's are ready for sanding, hinges etc-

The wings are also ready for sanding etc.

Xigris

Finally the Xigis arrived, I picked it up yesterday.  The fuselage moulding is outstanding, the wings are normal ZN-line high quality.  The fact that all holes for wing and stab are predrilled in the fuselage makes the assembly process much easier and faster. As always I look for places to save weight, and I immediately spot'ed a couple of possibilities.  The undercarriage that came with this kit is stiffer and stronger than previous ones from ZN, but as always nothing is for free and the weight has gone up quite a lot.  I had a set of the old type and checked it to be 93g (with holes for mounting etc), the new ones are 120g.  By using the old ones and go for smooth landings I save more than 20g.  As usual from ZN the tube for the tail is of aluminium, I had 10mm carbon tubes that fit the sleeves and is 10g lighter.  Not bad; 30g+ saved before bulding starts :-)  Below is a couple of pictures taken during the first evening of building.

Days off

It nice to have some days off work during christmas, it enables me to charge the batteries in preperation for all challenges in the new year to come.  Some flying has been possible, our field is cleared for snow, no ski's are required.  For winter flying it is important to dress sufficiently, and it also helpes to have some kind of cover over the transmitter to reduce wind-cooling of the fingers.  Today it was simply too cold to stay flying, the field is low in the terrain and it's a cold place (cold air is heavier than warm) so I called it quits after one flight with my fun-model.  When I got back home I put on the cross country skis and had a nice trip into the woods, the weather (appart from the temperature) was just too nice to stay inside.  Cross country skiing is such a good kind of exersize so the temperature is really not a problem, I god plenty hot (I should probably do it more to get in better physical shape ).

On such a nice day it is nice out in the wood

It was just too cold for flying today
